How to tie a scarf: our top ideas

Different ways to wear a scarf
From autumn and throughout the winter season, the scarf is an essential part of every wardrobe. For good reason: it dresses the neck, protects it from the cold, and enhances any outfit it completes. But how can you be sure to wear a scarf with style?
Patterns, colors, length… A scarf should first match your outfit of the day. Once chosen, it’s not enough to simply wrap it around. Whether you’re a man or a woman, it should be tied without being afraid to stand out. Tired of the Parisian knot? Discover here several simple ways to wear a scarf with style and brighten all your looks this winter.

Possibilities are endless
For men as well as women, there are countless ways to wear a scarf. Some are as simple as they are timeless, while others are slightly more technical to help you stand out. Discover here our selection and a few tips for wearing a scarf, a stole, a pashmina, a long scarf, a shawl, or even a blanket!
Over the shoulders

Casually draped over the shoulders when the temperatures allow, the scarf is enough to brighten the face and enhance a dress, jacket, or coat. Weather turning bad? Open the scarf before placing it so it covers the shoulders and upper back to keep you warm.
Tied to the side
Ideal for anyone wondering how to tie a thick scarf, this tip is to place the scarf around your neck and make a simple knot, without tightening. Then position it to one side and pass one of the ends over the shoulder. Done! Finally, adjust the volume of the scarf to highlight its color and patterns.

One end in front, one end at the back
Once again, the scarf is first draped over the shoulders. This time, a simple flick of the hand is enough to pass one of the ends behind the shoulder. Depending on your style and the temperatures, you can follow the line of the neck or let the curve of the scarf fall over the chest. Ideal for anyone wondering how to wear a thick scarf, this style also allows you to open the stole before placing it over the shoulders to cover as much of the upper body as possible.

A quick twist and it’s gone
Once your scarf is draped over the shoulders, gently pull on one of the ends before wrapping it around the neck. This end then returns to its initial position on one side of the chest. Depending on your preference, you can then loosen the neck wrap and/or make several turns with your scarf, making sure that both ends remain more or less even when resting on the chest.

Option 1
It’s a small detail, yet it can make a difference. Simply adjust one or both ends of the scarf under the neck wrap to highlight your face.
Option 2
Make a simple knot – tighter or looser depending on your style – either visible or tucked under the neck wrap(s).
The slim tie knot
Place the scarf over your shoulders. Pull the left end (slightly shorter) in front of you. Then pass the right end underneath, then over (use your left hand to keep a gap between the two ends), and then underneath again. Finally, make a “tie” knot by passing the end of the right end (now on the left side of your chest) through the space where your left hand is. Nothing better for wearing a scarf as a fashion accessory.

Option
Depending on the length of your scarf and the desired look, wrap your scarf around your neck once or twice before making the tie knot described.
The loose tie knot
It resembles the Parisian knot but with a more relaxed and styled look. Place the scarf around your neck, leaving one end slightly longer than the other. Pass the longer end over the short end, then bring it through the loop formed at the neck (without tightening). Then adjust the volume by loosening slightly and spreading the fabric for a “loose” effect.

Option
Depending on the length of your scarf and the desired look, you can make an additional wrap around the neck before finalizing the knot.
The Parisian knot and its variations
It resembles the Parisian knot but has much more flair. The one we’ve named the “loose tie knot” is very easy to achieve. Unlike the previous tips, here you start by placing the scarf on the chest with its ends at the back. Then simply bring both ends to the front on opposite sides of the chest, gather them, and pass them through the loop around the neck. Adjust the volume according to your preference.

Option 1
Position the Parisian knot to one side. A simple yet unexpected twist that is sure to draw attention to your look.
Option 2
Create a difference between the two ends of the scarf for a more styled knot. Simply pass one end through the loop as usual and the second end on the other side of the loop. In practice, rotate the loop 180° and pass the second end through the rotated loop. Nothing simpler to add a subtle touch of elegance to your outfit.

Option 3
Pass only one of the two ends through the knot to make your scarf the centerpiece of your look. Placed on the shoulder or chest, the second end highlights the patterns of your stole while giving you a relaxed style.
Option 4
Following Option 3, pass the end that went through the loop over the shoulder where the second end rests to create two intertwined loops around the neck. The result, both styled and trendy, puts a spotlight on your face during winter.
